Salem Woods Civic Association Board Meeting
12/6/07
The Board Meeting of the Salem Woods Civic Association was called to order by
President Dr. Barry Ezell on December 6, 2007 at 7 p.m.
Board Members present included Dr. Barry Ezell, Heidi Rosen, Jim and Maureen
Newton, Sarah Ezell, Amy Martinez and Chic Adams. Also present were Kathy Toll,
office manager, Bill Olcheski, and Eric Petterson. Absent were Jim Bayley, Dave
Leonard, and Pete Leavitt.
Dr. Ezell moved that the minutes from the November meeting be approved. The motion
was seconded, and the motion carried. The board decided to keep all the newly elected
officers in their same positions for the 2008 year, except for Jim Bayley who has stepped
down after many years as treasurer. We are therefore in need of a new treasurer.
Discussion ensued. We will advertise the need for a new treasurer on the readerboard
and on the website. Dr. Ezell stated that the operating budget for 2008 will be discussed
at the next meeting.
Jim Newton, Facilities Maintenance, has set up a watering system to pull water from the
lake to sprinkle the new lawn at the Salem Woods Park. This will save on watering
expense. Repairs and regular maintenance will be needed this Spring before pool
opening. Most important is the deck (cement) repair at the large pool and the
replacement of the electrical box at the office building. New landscaping around the
large pool will be taken care of this Spring, with new, smaller bushes being planted
around the perimeter of the parking lot for esthetic reasons and security. **See Eric
Petterson’s proposed Eagle Scout project.
Chic Adams and several board members discussed ways to advertise to get more
members. We will advertise for associate pool membership in nearby neighborhoods such
as Brigadoon, Bellamy Woods, Bellamy Plantation etc. Chic Adams has created a flyer
to pass out to our neighborhood to encourage residents to join SWCA. Amy Martinez
will check with Rosemont Forest Elementary to see if we can advertise in Paw Prints, the
school newspaper. Board members will discuss further ideas to increase membership in
2008 via email.
Sarah Ezell, Spirit, has visited a couple of new households to welcome them to the
neighborhood. She discussed with the board some incentive ideas for obtaining new
memberships and for increasing our clubhouse rentals if a renter refers a friend. Further
discussion on this to follow. The holiday party with Santa Claus will be Dec.15th at the
clubhouse from 2 – 4. Special Santa visits can be set up if desired. After the 16th Santa
suit rental will be available for $15/day.
Eric Petterson presented us with a wonderful proposal for his son’s Eagle Scout Project to
landscape the parking lot area at the large pool. This Spring project will include 200 ft.
of 4 foot high split rail fencing and 35 small bushes (Holly,Boxwood or other type) to be
