NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH KICKS OFF AUGUST 18TH!!!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday night, August 18th, 7:00 at the swimming pool clubhouse as we kick off the launch of the Salem Woods Neighborhood Watch Program. My name is Skip Heyman and I’ve volunteered to be the overall coordinator of the program but boy, do I need your help!!!
It takes 80% of our homeowners signing up in order to get the program officially on the police department’s books but the good thing is that even though we’d like everyone to be a SWCA member, you do NOT have to be one to be registered for Neighborhood Watch. The guideline is that there should be a “Block Captain” for every 20 homes which means we’ll need about 50 Block Captains. On top of that, we’ll need 5 “Zone Captains”, each of whom will oversee about 10 “blocks”, and I’ll try to coordinate the whole thing!
To get going, we’re having our VB Police Department liaison, Officer Leta Krieger, come and get us jump-started on August 18th. Hopefully we can pack the clubhouse and spill out onto the pool deck!! We need your participation. NW is all about looking out for each others’ safety and home security and it begins with a strong showing of support for the program.
The meeting shouldn’t last more than an hour so set that DVR, give yourself enough time to park and walk to the clubhouse, and plan to get involved in a program that will enhance the security of your home, your family, and your neighborhood and will add to the atmosphere that makes Salem Woods one of the best communities in which to live in Virginia Beach!!
If you have any questions beforehand or would like to volunteer to take a Block Captain position, please contact me at home at 495-2237 or via e-mail at sjheyman@vwc.edu. I look forward to getting to know all of you!!

I'm told we need a lot of people to sign up for or at least commit to reporting stuff in the neighbor to be recognized as a Neighborhood Watch.
What are the exact requirements to form a Neighborhood Watch? Is there a process anywhere online I can follow?
