SALEM WOODS CIVIC ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
6/7/10
The Board Meeting of the Salem Woods Civic Association was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by President Kirk Traber with the following Board members present: Sean Butcher, Kenny Sessoms, Skip Heyman, & Doris Meixel. Joanne Butcher, Amber Wyatt and Kathy Toll were also in attendance.
Old Business: There was no old business to discuss.
New Business: Introduction of Amber Wyatt, new spirit assistant to Lita Gedro!
Kirk Traber, President
We need updated copies of Board Roster. We should get all Board Members active on the website so they can enter pertinent information. Ideally, we can put all types of groups, i.e. Neighborhood Block Captains, Swca and pool members on a map of Salem Woods to see where we have the most members located, so we can hit areas where we need more participation. We need to make it easier to import information from excel spreadsheets into a csv file and update civicrm on the website. Automation will be the key in enabling the quick emailing of alerts etc. to the community.
Skip Heyman, Neighborhood Watch:
We still need more block captains. To procure NW signs for the neighborhood we need 80% participation. We have about 45% participation in the neighborhood. Hope to get 2 or 3 signs from Leta Kreiger. Some block Captains are not following through with their jobs. Recently, there was a shooting on Notley Drive near the canal. Police are investigating. Also, a tire slashing and graffiti of vehicle in the same general area 2 weeks ago.
Joanne and Sean Butcher/Swim Team:
Swim Team has about 80 members. All Swim Meets will have one lifeguard and a First Aid Station set up. The Coach and Christine Ward are CPR certified. The following are areas of concern with the pool:
- Pool cleanliness
- Music selection/loudness are affecting pool patrons
- Pricing of concessions seems high
Standards will be set for music volume/selection being played by pool patrons. Kirk will set the volume on the stereo in the clubhouse and also fix the microphone so it can be used for events. The lifeguards must make sure everything is cleaned up before the pool opens. We will check with Scott on concession pricing. One dollar for a soda and chips seems high to many, but that may depend on the price SWCA had to pay for it.
Other Concerns: The lane line storage reel needs to be moved closer to the shed.
Chemicals in the shed have a really strong smell. Ventilation needed.
More umbrellas/tables are needed.
Treasurers’ Report/Kathy Toll
We took more money in this month than we spent. We took in $6905 in pool membership in our checking acct. and another $1500 in our paypal account. Overall income for May was $10,827 and expenses were $8,015.00, with pool contributing to $4,830 of expenses.
Membership/Kenny Sessoms:
Kenny will be sending out a flyer throughout the neighborhood to encourage membership in SWCA. Doris will get her NJHS kids to distribute. We will also add to the flyer information for daily pool pass pricing for non-pool members to try to get more money in the coffers. Kathy said we have 48 pool memberships and 248 SWCA memberships so far this year.
Spirit: Amber Wyatt
Amber has volunteered to become Lita Gedro’s Spirit Committee Assistant to help with events. Lita suggested having family grill nights at the pool. Amber wants to help plane an event in July, maybe over the 4th weekend. Kirk suggested having an end of the year pool bash of some sort, still to be determined.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:oo p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Kathy Toll
SWCA Office Manager
