Neighborhood Watch

Hi there, I was wondering if there is some discussion forum about the neighborhood watch program?

This is it!
Seriously, there is not currently a moderated forum for neighborhood watch.  There was some talk about creating one, possibly only for logged on users to access, protecting the community from exposing potential vulnerabilities.
Let your Block Captain know you are interested.

The NW facilitator is Skip Heyman.  His email address should have been listed here,  and we are correcting that now.  I think he would love to have a NW watch forum.
If you need to know who your block captain is, please email your address to Skip and he will let you know who your captain is and inform the block captain if you are new in the neighborhood.  Some areas do not have a captain because no one has volunteered.  Others have volunteered but do not do anything, so the information is not distributed.   The only way we know you are not getting any information is if you notify us.
If you do not have a block captain, would you consider helping out?  Being a block captain (in spite of the formidable title) requires very little time and effort, especially if you had a former block captain who already did most of the legwork.    As a block captain, you would be the point of contact (via email) for your block when there is any news or reports regarding crime or suspicious activity in the Salem Woods neighborhood.  As a block captain, you should also be the first point of contact when there is any activity on your block that warrants attention.     Your job (should you choose to accept it) is to get the email addresses of the people on your assigned block and forward them the emails you receive from Skip.   You also need to let your neighbors know that they need to contact you AFTER THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE POLICE if they have first hand knowledge of criminal activity.  You would then report that to Skip so it can be distributed throughout the neighborhood.  At least once a year, the VB police encourage us to have a NW night where we all leave lights on and have block parties or socialize on our courts or streets.  The police also participate in this event.
In order to be successful, we need the support of everyone in Salem Woods.   If you wonder about the sirens and police cars and firetrucks in your neighborhood, then join us in this battle against crime and criminals in our area.   Salem Woods has always been a quiet family oriented neighborhood where our children could ride their bikes or we could walk in the evening without fear ....so lets keep it that way.
KEEP CRIME OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!!
